Winter 2025 Newsletter: Chozen-ji in the Community
HPM & Chozen-ji
The executive leadership team of local, employee-owned construction supply company, HPM, returned this year for a second strategic business review at Chozen-ji. During their time at the dojo, HPM executives participated in zazen and kendo, and held strategic discussions about their company and business, with insight from Sayama Roshi and Kangen Roshi.
Chozen-ji and HPM have been building a strong relationship over the last seven years, spanning a total of four strategic business meetings, here and outside the Dojo. We look forward to continuing to engage and host them in the future.
HPM's support has been critical to the Dojo's own growth. It allowed us to build the new housing across the street and to continue providing training without monetary fees. We look forward to continuing to engage with HPM in creating local leaders and supporting other local businesses in Hawaii.
Dojo Outreach
Chozen-ji hosted a variety of groups this fall and winter, exposing them to Zen training through the body and helping them develop new perspectives. Executives from local real estate developer, the MacNaughton Group, held strategic planning sessions at the dojo in July, followed by a leadership retreat followed by a capstone performance for leaders of the Pearl City High School Marching Band in August. A group from the US-Japan Council Annual Conference also visited the dojo in October.
